Let’s Talk…GRENADA

May 22, 2016

Grenada… Known as “The Spice Island” because there are more spices per square mile than any other place on the planet and part of the Grenadine Islands which includes its sister islands Petite Martinique and Carriacou. While driving with the windows down through the island you can smell the aromatic mix of spices including nutmeg, cocoa, ginger, cloves, mace, and vanilla. Let’s talk beaches- you choose. Grenada boasts 45 white sand beaches and 9 black sand beaches. Plenty to do and plenty to see include the rum and chocolate tours.

Grenada has natural unspoiled beauty wowing its tourists with verdant mountains, rain forests, waterfalls, natural preserves and YES… it’s beaches! That is a whole lot packed onto this island that is just 12 miles wide and 21 miles long. Lots to see and do all located nearby.

Beautiful Grenada is also home to the Underwater Sculpture Park which is believed to be the world’s first . The sculptures can be seen from the water’s surface and enjoyed by snorkelers. The Underwater Sculpture Park is a can’t –miss attractions with a series sculptures approximately 22 feet below the surface with sea life living and swimming among them.

There are more than 30 dive sights between Grenada and Carriacou that include wrecks, coral reefs and walls. Grenada has something for everyone including hikers and those that enjoy cultural and historical experiences. Annadale Falls is a picturesque destination for those that would like to hike and take a dip in a natural pool. There are more than enough trails to hike and intensities to trek both guided and unguided.

For the historical and cultural places Fort Frederick is a must- see. This fort dates back to 1791 and has a panoramic view of St. Georges. This was also the headquarters of the People’s Revolutionary Army.

As a rum lover, check out River Antoine Rum Distillery in St. Patrick. This distillery has been in operation since the early 1800s and is an inexpensive guided tour for about $2.

There are some fascinating resorts both all- inclusive and European style. For you all- inclusive resorts – Sandals LaSource Grenada Resort and Spa (rates starting at $340pp, per night) and Spice Island Beach Resort (rates starting at $887pp, per night). For your European style- Calabash Hotel (rates starting at $349 per night and includes breakfast, there is also an all- inclusive option) and the Radisson Grenada Beach Resort (rates starting from $218 per night). The resorts and hotels mentioned are just a few that come highly recognized and recommended.

As you can see, GRENADA is something to talk about! Now it’s time for a visit…
